First run, post marathon.  I felt good throughout, but as soon as I finished my legs felt 'shot.'  It blows my mind how people run so soon after a marathon.  It's been 5 days and maybe I should have held off until 6?  And to think others will run the very next day.  Am I just a wuss?

Maybe a cushier shoe would've helped? Or some none impact leg exercises? At my last marathon I had my wife bring a rubbermaid tub of ice water to the finish, and I soaked my legs in that. Seemed to help quite a bit.

Also, I've noticed most runners that run soon after a marathon race marathons a couple times a year, so I imagine their bodies are just more used to a race effort pounding over that long of a distance.

No worries though, I'm sure you'll be back in no time.

Good call, Seth. I think you were spot-on, i.e. its been nearly 18 months since my last marathon so my body wasn't too happy. Plus the five fingers was just a bone-headed call on my part. What was I thinking?? I guess I just wanted to make sure I could use them a few more times before the 7 months of rain begin in Portland. For sure a more cushioned shoe would have been smarter. Live and learn, eh?
